American Bureau of Shipping Recertifies Sky-Futures for Close Visual Inspections and Non-Destructive Testing Using UAS & Robotics

London, England – December 3rd, 2025 — The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has recertified Sky-Futures, a global leader in drone-based inspection services and risk management data solutions.

This recertification confirms that Sky-Futures’ inspection services continue to meet the stringent quality, safety, and reporting standards of the American Bureau of Shipping. It enables clients to demonstrate compliance with international inspection and asset-integrity requirements and ensures that Sky-Futures’ data and reports remain trusted and accepted by regulators and insurers worldwide.

Founded in 2009, Sky-Futures became one of the first UAS companies to be certified by the ABS to conduct remote inspections on vessels and onshore/offshore storage tanks. Building on that milestone, Sky-Futures delivered one of the industry’s first drone-based internal tank inspections on an FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) facility, setting a new benchmark for safety, efficiency, and data quality in highly challenging environments.

From that foundation, Sky-Futures has continued to push the boundaries of what’s possible in remote inspection, integrating confined-space LiDAR drones with robotic crawler systems to transform how critical infrastructure is inspected and maintained.

Over 15 years later, Sky-Futures remains at the forefront of inspections across vessels, drill rigs, FPSOs, offshore installations, and onshore facilities.

Nick Shepherd MInstNDT, Sky-Futures Head of Engineering, said:

“Since 2009, the evolution of our technology fleet has been exceptional, and the next decade promises even greater advances in safety, integrity, and efficiency.

As technology continues to evolve, so too will Sky-Futures, integrating new tools, data-driven insights, and innovative methods to deliver the highest-quality, safest, and most efficient solutions across the maritime and energy sectors.

Innovation has been at the heart of Sky-Futures since day one, and that drive remains as strong today as it was in 2009. The future of remote inspection is already in sight, and it looks extraordinary.”
