Sky-Futures Acquires UnmannedTech, Expanding Elite Remote Survey and Inspection Solutions Across Africa

On May 29th, 2025, Sky-Futures announced the acquisition of UnmannedTech, Africaʼs premier specialist in industrial aerial surveys, monitoring, and data collection in remote locations.
The acquisition of UnmannedTech complements Sky-Futuresʼ capabilities across Africa, giving clients access to state-of-the-art solutions for advanced infrastructure inspections, risk management, and structure monitoring.
Collectively, the companies serve clients in oil and gas, utilities, renewable energy, civil infrastructure, and a variety of other industries, including security and wildlife conservation.
UnmannedTech founder and CEO Louw Bonthuys will lead the development of the Sky-Futures hub in Africa, strengthening client support and providing greater flexibility and dedicated service throughout the region.
He and his team of inspection engineers and experienced UAS pilots will continue to be based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Louw Bonthuys, Managing Director of Sky-Futures Africa
Louw leads Sky-Futures Africa, bringing two decades of aviation and drone leadership experience spanning defence, conservation, and critical infrastructure.
Born in Namibia and trained by both the South African Air Force and British Army, he has operated drones in high-stakes environments worldwide. In 2014, he founded UnmannedTech, delivering drone services across energy, conservation, and infrastructure sectors in Africa and Europe. He was instrumental in shaping South Africaʼs early drone regulations and has since focused on delivering high-impact data through thermal analysis, 3D mapping and real-time analytics.
Louw brings strategic leadership, deep field experience, and a client-first mindset to Sky-Futuresʼ growing Africa business.
